art-gallery-of-hamiltonThe Art Gallery of Hamilton was first established on the second floor of the public library in Hamilton, Ontario in 1914. The current dedicated building was opened in 1977 in the center of Hamilton. The gallery contains over 9,500 different pieces of artwork from a variety of modern, local and classical artists. The museum is now an important location for Canadian artwork from the past and present. A juried exhibition is held every year that features works from new artists who compete for a prize and a permanent place in the gallery collection. Visitors to the museum can experience nearly 30 different exhibits every year. The museum also maintains a café and a gift shop. Langton Heating and Air Conditioning supports the Art Gallery of Hamilton for a number of reasons. It is one of the oldest galleries in Canada. It is an important venue for new Canadian artists who are looking for wider exposure to an international audience. A large number of the exhibits that are assembled each year travel to Europe, the United States and other countries around the world. This increases the awareness of Canadian artists and the cultural history of the country. The gallery is also a community center helping to encourage young and new artists. Even with community support the gallery still relies largely on memberships in order to remain in operation. Langton Heating and Air Conditioning enjoys the privileges of Membership to the gallery which comes with many benefits including free admission, discounts on special tickets and café purchases as well as discounts at other cultural centers in Ontario. Members remain informed about what is going on in the gallery through a special magazine and other mailings. Membership is very important because it allows the museum to continue preserving artwork that is important to the history of Canada. It also provides funds for new and exciting exhibits each year. Members of the Art Gallery of Hamilton have the opportunity to volunteer in a number of ways. The gallery is always looking for help during large events and movie showings. Volunteers can also take part in a number of learning and educational activities that help the gallery while teaching the public about Canadian history and preservation techniques. Volunteering gives members a unique relationship with the gallery and the artwork. It provides a memorable experience that helps the community while also supporting an important part of Canadian history and culture.
